Should I See a Cardiologist?
This may sound like a silly question. If one suffered a heart attack, would there be any question? If one suffers from heart failure, would there be any question? If one has arrhythmia, would there be any question? Of course, in all these scenarios, it would be a no-brainer that a cardiologist...
At what blood pressure should I take medications?
That’s a great question. In general, elevated blood pressure needs first to be diagnosed based on the overall average and rarely based on a sole or isolated measurement whether in the doctor’s office or at home. Once the diagnosis is verified, if the blood pressure remains less than 160/100, it is so key to start lifestyle changes such as weight loss exercise, and salt restriction. Prior to starting any medication. After a period of 3 months, if the BPs show no improvement then medication needs to be started. In cases of Confounding medical disease states such as heart disease, kidney disease, and stroke then the guidelines are more strict and I would opt for medical therapy from the onset to keep within goal immediately.
