Get to know Endodontist Dr. Matthew S. Detar, who serves patients in the Loudoun, Manassas and Reston areas.
Well-versed in the field of endodontics, Dr. Detar welcomes patients at Loudoun Endodontics, Manassas Endodontics and Reston Endodontics. His goal is to provide the highest standard of endodontic care possible within a friendly, comfortable environment.
A native of Ashburn, Virginia, he attended Broad Run High School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg in 2003. He moved on to pursue his career in dentistry and graduated magna cum laude from the VCU School of Dentistry in 2007.
Following a one year postdoctoral dental residency in St. Petersburg, Florida, Dr. Detar entered private practice near Richmond, Virginia and practiced general dentistry for 3 years before deciding to continue his education in the specialty of endodontics. He taught for one year as a full time associate faculty member in the Department of Endodontics before completing his endodontic residency program in 2014.
Committed to practicing the highest level of endodontics, Dr. Detar is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. For the past 4 years, he has also served as a delegate for the Northern VA component of the Virginia Dental Association.
Endodontics is the dental specialty concerned with the study and treatment of the infected and inflamed dental pulp. Along with two to three years of advanced training beyond dental school, endodontists have incredible precision and hand-eye coordination, making them highly skilled in performing complex treatments. They use the most specialized and advanced technology to treat tooth pain and perform root canal treatments. No one is better at saving your natural teeth!
As a testament to his success, Dr. Detar was recently awarded the Ellen S. Flanagan Award for volunteer services by the Northern Virginia Dental Society for his commitment to helping those less fortunate in the area. In addition, he has been recognized by his dental peers as a Top Dentist in Northern Virginia Magazine as well as Virginia Living Magazine.
In his spare time, he enjoys D.C. sports (Go Caps!), traveling, continuing education and volunteering. He works closely with the Northern VA Dental Clinics on a monthly basis to provide free endodontics services for low income residents.
