Being an experienced vascular surgeon, Dr. Dovgan specializes in treatment of varicose veins, peripheral arterial disease, carotid stenosis, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and other vascular problems. He began Space Coast Vascular in 2005, with a primary office in Melbourne, Florida and a satellite office in Merritt Island.
Space Coast Vascular joined the multispecialty group Medical Associates of Brevard in 2009. Not only are they highly competent in their field of medicine, they are truly compassionate about their patients’ medical well-being and are forceful advocates that their patients receive the best care possible from the doctor themselves, from the doctor’s staff, and from any hospital or other facility to which they refer their patients.
From specializing in blood clots to treating the carotid artery disease, Dr. Dovgan uses the latest technology to deliver great results while maintaining the highest possible safety standards. He began treating varicose veins in 2001 and was one of the first in the area to use VNUS closure. To date, he has performed over 1,000 closures.
In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), he is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery and the American College of Phlebology.
With a broad educational background, Dr. Dovgan received his undergraduate and medical degrees at Creighton University. He then trained in general surgery at Creighton-affiliated hospitals, completing his fellowship in vascular surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
At the Arizona Heart Institute in Phoenix, he received additional endovascular training. Following this accomplishment, he joined the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville as an Assistant Professor of Vascular Surgery.
A leader in his field, Dr. Dovgan is board-certified in both surgery and vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
Vascular surgery is a surgical subspecialty in which diseases of the vascular system, including the arteries, veins, and lymphatic circulation, are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction. A vascular surgeon diagnoses, treats, and manages conditions in the arteries and veins, also called the blood vessels. These specialists treat a range of health problems, from spider and varicose veins to life-threatening aneurysms, and can help patients manage chronic conditions throughout their lives.
In his spare time, Dr. Dovgan enjoys fixing old trucks and deep sea fishing.
