Dr. Benjamin Kuhn is a distinguished board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist and a Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP). He has been making waves in the field of pediatric medicine with his exemplary clinical skills and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of children with digestive disorders.
Currently serving as the Division Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology at MUSC Children’s Health, Dr. Kuhn leads a team of passionate professionals committed to providing top-tier care to young patients in the Charleston area. Namely, he operates out of MUSC Children’s Health Specialty Care - Mt Pleasant, MUSC Children's Health Specialty Care - Summerville, and MUSC Children's Health R. Keith Summey Medical Pavilion in North Charleston.
“I especially find it rewarding as once children are diagnosed and appropriately treated; they tend to bounce back to good health. I enjoy caring for them over time, watching them grow up into young adults.”
With a strong background in clinical research, healthcare management, and patient experience, Dr. Kuhn brings a wealth of expertise to his role at MUSC Children’s Health. His journey to becoming a leading authority in pediatric gastroenterology began with his undergraduate studies at Cornell University in New York, followed by medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Furthering his training, Dr. Kuhn performed his residency in pediatrics at Penn State Health Children's Hospital in 2008, followed by his fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in 2011.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr. Kuhn also serves as a Professor of Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he mentors future healthcare professionals and contributes to cutting-edge research in the field.
Prior to joining MUSC Children’s Health, Dr. Kuhn was at Geisinger in Pennsylvania for over a decade, where he was a pediatric gastroenterologist and served as a regional director of pediatrics for the system. He also chaired the pediatric patient experience committee, where he implemented strategies to improve patient satisfaction and outcomes.
Dr. Kuhn’s commitment to advancing the field of pediatric gastroenterology is exemplified by his specialization in allergic gastrointestinal conditions, particularly Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE). He established the MUSC Children's Health Center for Eosinophilic Disorders, where he serves as director, and has contributed significantly to research in this area, including the authorship of key publications such as the North American Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) Society’s board review textbook chapter on EoE.
Recognized for his outstanding patient care and clinical acumen, Dr. Kuhn has received prestigious accolades throughout his career, including being named a “Top Doctor” by Castle Connolly in 2019 and earning recognition as a Top Patient Experience Clinician at Geisinger from 2012 to 2916 and again from 2018 to 2022. His passion for providing high-quality care to children is evident in his holistic approach to healthcare, focusing not only on treatment but also on long-term patient well-being.
When not hard at work, Dr. Kuhn finds joy in spending time with his family and enjoying the natural beauty of Charleston. An avid reader of Dan Brown’s books and skilled cook on his backyard grill, he embodies a well-rounded approach to life that mirrors his comprehensive approach to patient care.
