Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. James Dean, who serves patients in Putnam, Connecticut.

A personable and well-accomplished physician, Dr. Dean joined Eye Care Northeast, PC in 1994. His primary interest is general ophthalmology and total eye care for patients such as cataracts, glaucoma, pediatrics, reading difficulties, contact lenses, cosmetics such as Botox and fillers, and the numerous medical conditions that affect vision.

A firm believer in staying current with procedures and modern technology, he combines his excellent surgical and clinical capabilities to perform advanced surgery for patients as well as provide the best in general ophthalmology.

Pertaining to his educational background, Dr. Dean graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Assumption College in 1983, and his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1987. He then went on to perform his internship and residency in ophthalmology at Henry Ford Hospital.

In 1994, he attained board certification in ophthalmology through the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Having been very active in patient education, Dr. Dean has been involved in national programs to monitor patients with diabetes and glaucoma. He works closely with area physicians to educate their patients on medical conditions that affect the eye, and can be found on medical staff at Day Kimball Hospital.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, retinal, and corneal surgery.

In honor of his clinical expertise, Dr. Dean has been the recipient of On-Time Doctor Award (2014), Patients’ Choice Award (2018, 2017, 2015, 2014), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2018, 2017, 2014).
