Dr. Patel is a top pediatric anesthesiologist within the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. His clinical interests include pediatric liver transplantation and acute pain management for post-operative patients, including the use of ultrasound to guide regional blockade for surgical procedures.

Texas Children’s Hospital is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to create a healthier future for children and women throughout the global community by leading in patient care, education, and research. Its Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine provides a full range of services for premature babies, newborns, children, and adolescents. The Texas Children’s anesthesiologists are dedicated to treating children by providing expert care before, during, and after surgery.

Alongside his clinical role, Dr. Patel also serves as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics-Anesthesiology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

In order to stay up to date in his field, he remains a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, the Texas Medical Association, and the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2005. He then went on to complete his internship at John Peter Smith Hospital in 2006. This was followed by a residency in anesthesiology and a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine in 2009 and 2011, respectively.

Following his training, the doctor became board-certified in anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. 

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure and temperature, anesthesiologists also measure the patient’s respiration.
