Dr. Boan is a licensed clinical psychologist, prescribing psychologist, and clinical neuropsychologist with over a decade of experience. She provides psychotropic medication management for adults, ages ranging from 18 to 64 years of age. She is also a consulting neuropsychologist at Amita St. Joseph Hospital and for neurologists in the Rockford area.

Specific to neuropsychology, Dr. Boan offers assessments related to: cognitive impairment related to medical diagnoses and disease; memory impairments/dementia; traumatic brain injuries and post concussion syndrome; cognitive impairment secondary to toxic exposure; ischemic attacks, strokes, hypoxia/anoxia, vascular disorders; degenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis; bariatric, pain stimulator, spinal cord stimulator surgery candidates; learning difficulties/disorders; autism spectrum disorders; attention-deficit disorders; disability claims and Workers’ compensations; and emotional and stress related disorders (PTSD).

For all age ranges, Dr. Boan provides in-depth neuropsychological assessments related to various neurological disorders, developmental disorders, mental health disorders, and for differential diagnosis. Her approach to treatment involves a combination of biological, psychological, and philosophical principles to better understand behavioral, cognitive and neurological functioning. This framework allows for a thorough conceptualization of a person’s personality, history, health, and assessment performance.

Understanding “the whole person” allows for individualized treatment that incorporates medical and holistic treatment recommendations that will help the individual and his/her family. Dr. Boan believes that treatment is most successful when recommendations are collaborative, provide immediate results, and also allow for lifestyle changes.

Performing her undergraduate education at Aurora University, Dr. Boan completed a double major in biological sciences and psychology. She then went on to earn a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Benedictine University and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Thereafter, she graduated with a Doctorate degree from Adler University, with specializations in Clinical Neuropsychology, Child and Adolescent Therapy, and Advanced Adlerian Therapy. She further completed her diagnostic practicum at Maryville Scott Nolan Hospital and her therapy practicum at Mental Health and Deafness Resources. She performed her neuropsychological training through Rush University, her internship training at Elgin State Hospital, and her postdoctoral training through a variety of clinics and hospitals. She also performed her residency in clinical psychopharmacology and prescribing psychiatric medications through Amita Health System Hospitals.

Continuously advancing her efforts, Dr. Boan is an active member of the American Psychological Association, the Illinois Psychological Association, the Illinois Association of Prescribing Psychologists (Board Member), and the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology.

Psychology is the science of behavior and mind. It includes the study of conscious and unconscious phenomena, as well as feeling and thought. It is an academic discipline of immense scope. Psychologists assess, diagnose, and treat the psychological problems and behavioral dysfunctions resulting from, or related to, physical and mental health. In addition, they play a major role in the promotion of healthy behavior, preventing diseases and improving patients’ quality of life.

Recognized as a leader for psychology and for being the second prescribing psychologist in the state of Illinois, Dr. Boan has authored several articles about healthcare, as well as has given presentations and lectures related to brain injury and concussions. She has also spoken about the importance of outreach and health services in rural areas.
