Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Zia M. Ahmad, who serves patients in St. Louis, Missouri.

A reputable cardiologist, Dr. Ahmad is affiliated with St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He specializes in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease.

Since 1974 and now as part of the St. Luke’s network of care,  St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital is proud to serve health care needs with compassion and a personalized approach. Licensed to practice medicine in Missouri and Illinois, Dr. Ahmad is affiliated with Bi-State Cardiovascular Consultants, Mercy Hospital Jefferson, Mercy Hospital Fort Smith, Red Bud Regional Hospital, Missouri Baptist Medical Center, and Iron County Medical Center.

Academically, he earned his medical degree from Dow Medical College in Pakistan. After relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, followed by his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

On a professional level, Dr. Ahmad is a member of many medical organizations, including the American College of Physicians. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC).

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
