Dr. Colleen Blanchfield practices Pain Medicine in Reston, VA. Pain medicine is concerned with the prevention of pain, and the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients experiencing pain. Pain medicine physicians use a broad-based approach to treat all pain disorders, ranging from pain as a symptom of disease to pain as the primary disease. Dr. Blanchfield serves as a consultant to other physicians but is often the principal treating physician, providing care at various levels; such as treating the patient directly, prescribing medication, prescribing rehabilitative services, performing pain relieving procedures, counseling patients and families, directing a multidisciplinary team, coordinating care with other healthcare providers, and providing consultative services.

Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Colleen A. Blanchfield, who serves patients in Reston, Virginia.
A well established and highly skilled psychiatrist and behavioral neurologist, Dr. Blanchfield is the Founder of Full Circle Neuropsychiatric Wellness Center.
She has opened this wellness center with the intent of expanding her knowledge and her ability to help people help themselves. She moved her practice to Reston, Virginia in early 2004 for personal as well as professional reasons.
Full Circle Neuropsychiatric Wellness Center is dedicated to empowering individuals to move from surviving to thriving through a continuum of care, treating their minds, bodies and spirits. Their vision is to be an innovative leader in Northern Virginia, providing exceptional service through an integrative approach to eastern and western medicine offering hope and empowering patients to take charge of their health and affect a positive change in their lives.
Academically, Dr. Blanchfield earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1981 with majors in Zoology and an independent major entitled Biology and Psychology of Women. After finishing her residencies in neurology and psychiatry at State University Health Science Center in Brooklyn, she chose to begin her neuropsychiatric practice in Northern Virginia. She was attracted to the diversity of the area as well as the strong sense of family and community that she found here.
Alongside her clinical practice, she enjoys teaching psychiatry and neurology at Georgetown University School of Medicine, and at Divine Mercy University. From 1992 to 2004, she had a successful neuropsychiatric practice in Falls Church, and was on staff at Dominion Hospital and Fairfax Hospital where she performed electroconvulsive therapy at both hospitals.
Providing clinical assessment and evaluation as well as medication management, Dr. Blanchfield is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
Licensed to practice acupuncture in Virginia, she is an active member of the American Neuropsychiatric Association and the American Psychiatric Association.
Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results.
Compassionate and dedicated to providing the best care to her patients, Dr. Blanchfield has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award and Compassionate Doctor Recognition Award for 2018. She is also a regular keynote speaker at Life with Cancer where she caters to patients and their families undergoing cancer treatments.
On a more personal note, she is married to another Washington-area physician and is the mother of two sons.
