Get to know Pediatric Cardiologist Dr. Sarika Kalantre, who serves patients in Newark, New Jersey.

A prominent pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Kalantre serves patients at University Hospital, Newark. Her clinical interests include non-invasive imaging, transthoracic, transesophageal and fetal echocardiography, and arrhythmias in children and young adults.

University Hospital is an academic medical center with 519 licensed beds, and an active medical staff of more than 525. They are a regional resource for advanced care in a wide range of medical specialties. They are home to northern New Jersey’s Level I Trauma Center and to specialty programs such as the Center for Liver Diseases and the Comprehensive Stroke Center.

Back in 1995, Dr. Kalantre earned her medical degree from the University of Pune BJ Medical College in India, and completed her residency in pediatrics at the Bai Jerbai Wadia Children’s Hospital in 2000. After relocating to the United States, she completed an additional residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine in 2005 and 2008, respectively.

An expert in her field, the doctor is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents, while cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart as well as some parts of the circulatory system. Pediatric cardiologists specialize in diagnosing and treating heart problems in children. In those children who might need heart surgery, pediatric cardiologists work closely with pediatric heart surgeons to determine the best treatments and interventions.

Speaking multiple languages, Dr. Kalantre is fluent in English, Hindi, Urdu, Spanish, Punjabi, and Marathi.
