  • How dangerous is a mammogram for a 15 year old?

    Good morning, If your daughter has already had an ultrasound and it was “negative," perhaps the next best step is for a breast MRI with a marker placed on the lump so that it can truly be characterized. I agree that a mammogram is not the next best test for a 15 year old. A breast MRI uses no radiation at all. A small dose of gadolinium (contrast) is used. It is safe as long as there is no pregnancy. The MRI will completely characterize the lump. Make sure you show the technologist where it is so the technologist can market with a vitamin E capsules.
