Dr. Schwartz is a distinguished healthcare executive with a robust background in Emergency Medicine , Emergency Medical System management, Nurse Telephone Triage and Advice, 911 Dispatch, utilization review and medical transportation services

Pertaining to his educational pursuits, he received his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine, Residency at UC San Diego in Internal Medicine and Residency at UCLA Harbor in Emergency Medicine.  He is board certified in both Internal and Emergency Medicine, practiced Emergency Medicine for over 30 years.  He   completed extensive leadership training at the University of California, San Diego’s Rady School of Management and at Kaiser Permanente. 

In his tenure as Medical Director at American Medical Response, America’s leading medical transportation provider, Dr. Schwartz spearheaded strategic initiatives aimed at optimizing emergency response systems, ensuring efficient utilization review processes, and enhancing medical transportation services. H Dr. Schwartz’s strategic prowess was instrumental in devising protocols, evaluating utilization patterns, and elevating the standard of medical care and emergency response services nationwide.

At the helm of the Heartland Fire 911 Dispatch Center, he demonstrated exceptional leadership by overseeing operational efficiency, maintaining service quality, and identifying avenues for growth including adding Nurse Advice and Triage. 

Beyond emergency response management, Dr. Schwartz’s leadership extends to oversight of utilization and review processes. As the Medical Director for PA, an URAC-accredited Utilization and Review company, he provided guidance for a vast membership spanning multiple states, conducting thorough case reviews to ensure appropriate utilization based on nationally accepted criteria. His role as chair of the board for PA underscored his ability to lead multidisciplinary teams of healthcare professionals toward achieving optimal outcomes.

Finally, at Kaiser Permanente, his expertise as a Medical Director and Staff ED Physician played a pivotal role in shaping and overseeing a comprehensive nurse advisory system across four states. Managing a diverse team of 200 nurses and 120 ancillary staff, he provided invaluable support to 6 million members while generating substantial annual revenue.

An emergency physician works in an emergency department to care for acutely ill or injured patients on an unscheduled basis.

In his free time, Dr. Schwartz enjoys boxing, cross country skiing, and fishing. His favorite place to vacation is McCall, Idaho.
