Dr. Forouhar is a highly accomplished pathologist whose expertise encompasses surgical pathology, gastrointestinal and liver pathology, and fine-needle aspiration cytology. 

At present, he holds the position of Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Emeritus Chief of the Department of Anatomic Pathology at UConn John Dempsey Hospital, and serves as a Professor within the Department of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Connecticut’s College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources. With an impressive 36-year career in practice, he spent approximately two decades as the Clinical Chief and Director of the Department of Anatomic Pathology at UConn Health.

With a solid educational background, Dr. Forouhar graduated with his Medical Degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Iran in 1971. Subsequently, he embarked on a path that led him to the United States, where he pursued an internship in internal medicine at the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Illinois in 1973. 

His dedication to the field of pathology was evident through two residencies, one at Hartford Hospital and the other at the Mallory Institute of Pathology. He further honed his skills by undertaking a fellowship in cytopathology at Hartford Hospital from 1977 to 1978.

To solidify his commitment to excellence, Dr. Forouhar achieved board certification in anatomic and clinical pathology, as well as in cytopathology, recognized by the American Board of Pathology (ABPath). The mission of the ABPath, a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties, is to serve the public and advance the profession of pathology by setting certification standards and promoting lifelong competency of pathologists.

Among his professional affiliations, Dr. Forouhar is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, the College of American Pathologists, the Association of Clinical Scientists, the New England Pediatric Pathology Club, the Group for Research In Pathology Education, the American Society of Cytopathology, the American Medical Association, and the Association of Pathology Chairs.

Pathology is a branch of medical science that involves the study and diagnosis of disease through the examination of surgically removed organs, tissues, bodily fluids, and in some cases, the whole body. Pathologists are physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and management of diseases by laboratory methods. 

For over four decades, beginning in 1980, Dr. Forouhar has made significant contributions as an esteemed member of the Editorial Board for the renowned publication, the Annals of Clinical and Laboratory Science.
