About

I believe that our life and cultural experiences, especially our earliest ones, are fundamental in shaping the way we view ourselves and others. It is essential to understand my patient's cultural identity (i.e., race, gender, gender identity, sexuality, class) and how it has shaped their development. Often negative life experiences can create problematic ways of coping and a skewed perception of who we are in the world. This can lead to a variety of issues related to anxiety, depression, shame, rejection, stress, relationship issues, identity development, grief/loss, and sexual intimacy.

It is also my belief that the therapeutic relationship is an essential factor in the process of reaching your therapeutic goals. This is why a primary focus of mine is to build a solid therapeutic alliance with support, validation, and acceptance. It is through building a trusting relationship that we can begin the process of deepening the therapeutic work.

I strive to create a safe and warm environment where individuals can begin to identify, challenge and eventually change maladaptive relational patterns. Through in-depth psychodynamic therapy, we can begin to challenge these patterns in hopes of providing relief and creating a new way of being with yourself and others.

Dr. Mason Weber is a psychologist practicing in Sandy Springs, GA.  Dr. Weber specializes in the treatment of mental health problems, and helps people to cope with their mental illnesses. As a psychologist, Dr. Weber evaluates and treats patients through a variety of methods, most typically being psychotherapy or talk therapy. Patients usually visit Dr. Weber because they have been experiencing depression, anxiety, stress or anger for a significant period of time and are seeking help.

The practice of counseling psychology encompasses a broad range of culturally sensitive practices that help people improve their well-being, alleviate distress and maladjustment, resolve crises and increase their ability to function better in their lives. With its attention both to normal developmental issues and problems associated with physical, emotional and mental disorders, the specialization holds a unique perspective in the broader practice-based areas of psychology. While both counseling and clinical psychologists practice psychotherapy, counseling psychology differs from clinical in that its practitioners tend to focus on overall well-being across the lifespan, compared to clinical clients who often are experiencing more severe symptoms of mental illness.
