Get to know Podiatric Surgeon Dr. Rex Z. Nilson, who serves patients in Edmonds, Washington.

Dr. Nilson has been practicing podiatric medicine and surgery in the Seattle area since 1984. A board-certified physician since 1987, he joined Ankle & Foot of Edmonds in 2008. 

The doctor believes in being a lifelong learner so he consistently embraces opportunities to attend medical seminars, workshops, and conferences. He brings compassion and understanding to the practice of medicine, and is a proponent of prevention as well as providing comfort. It is important to him that patients have an understanding of their condition so that they can work together to improve their situation.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Nilson holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University, and graduated with his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland in 1983. He did his post-graduate training at the Windom Area Hospital, and in Seattle, Washington.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, the doctor is board-certified in podiatric surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, which was founded in 1975 as an independent, non-profit organization for the purpose of certifying podiatric surgeons found to be qualified after meeting credentialing requirements and completing the examination process.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Nilson served as Chief of Staff at Fifth Avenue Hospital in Seattle, and worked for six years as a member of the Washington State Podiatric Medical Board, appointed by Governor Gary Locke. Today, he is the Chairman of the Waldo Medical Foundation, a position he has held for 20 years. He is also a 33-year board member and Treasurer of the International Foot & Ankle Foundation.

Podiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatment of a variety of disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity. A podiatrist, also known as a podiatric physician or a foot and ankle surgeon, is a medical professional devoted to the treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity. They can treat injuries and complications from ongoing health issues like diabetes.

On a more personal note, Dr. Nilson lives in the greater Seattle area with his wife, Torri, who is a journalist and a teacher. Their family includes four wonderful children Benjamin, Ryan, Alyssa, and Natalie.
