The surveyors were able to question families of over 30 thousand children and adolescents aged 3 to 17 residing in the United States. Of these children, 711 were reportedly diagnosed with having autism spectrum disorder. This translated to a prevalence of about 2.47%, with the prevalence of boys being higher at 3.63% compared to girls (1.25%). This is consistent with previous reports that autism tends to be diagnosed more often in boys than girls every year.
