Learning to Live with Lupus: One Step at a Time

Sunlight, medication, and infections can cause lupus "flare-ups"

Lupus can have several triggers that can cause a flare, sunlight being one of them. Other things that can trigger a lupus flare are:

  • Infections: Sometimes, serious infections and viruses can cause a severe reaction, and even a relapse (as lupusĀ canĀ go into remission)
  • Medications: Blood pressure and anti-seizure medications have caused severe reactions in lupus patients. Those with drug-induced lupus flares get better once they stop taking that mediation. However, in a rare event, symptoms can continue after the medication is discontinued.
