Lesser-Known Facts About Lupus

Relapses

Periods of time when symptoms start to show are called relapses or flares. The time when the symptoms are under control is called remissions. These remissions and flares mostly occur abruptly when you least expect. They occur without any cause. No one can predict when these flares will happen, the length of time it will take or how bad it can be. Sometimes when some have flares, he/she might develop other symptoms in addition to those already there.

However, a flare-up can also be mild. About 75% of lupus patients have skin rashes and arthritis. About 50% have kidney problems. Also, people with lupus are more vulnerable to infection as compared to most people.
