Some Cystic Fibrosis Patients May Live Longer Due to Special Mutation

ENaC channels may inspire new treatments

This discovery is very exciting for the cystic fibrosis community. It means that we may have a new target for potential new therapies for the disease. Perhaps if we could target ENaCs with some type of small molecule or antibody-based drug, we could induce the same kind of protective effect in patients who lack this beneficial ENaC variant. This doesn't mean just reducing symptoms; it could also mean prolonging life, too.
