Depression can lead to other conditions
When people have depression, it's also bad for their overall health. It's been found that people living with rheumatoid have a higher risk of heart disease and heart attack if they have depression as well. They also suffer from overall increased mortality and disability too. Suicide is also much higher in women who have rheumatoid arthritis. One Finnish study conducted over 13 years found that out of all the people who had rheumatoid arthritis and committed suicide, more than half were women. When looking at those who committed suicide without the condition, the percentage of women was dramatically less at 17%.
