The Rising Prevalence of Celiac Disease

There are more people being diagnosed with celiac

Through advances in medical technology that granted access to affordable biopsies for the general public, celiac disease has become much easier to diagnose and detect, considering that the aforementioned thinning of the intestinal lining is a strong indicator of the disease, and can be easily observed through a biopsy. For this reason, the massive increase in the prevalence of the disease was attributed to advances in technology that allows the easier detection of the condition.

Nevertheless, upon further inspection of the data obtained in the longitudinal study, it was discovered that there was something else happening in the background that wasn't detected by researchers at the moment. It turned out that celiac disease numbers were not inflated only because of the enhanced ability to detect it, there is actually more people suffering from it today than there were at least 20 years ago.
