"Tight Control" Using Biomarkers Improves Crohn's

Bridging the gap between patient evaluations and test results

Past studies emphasized the importance of patients’ personal evaluations because they believed they provide important insight into the patients symptoms, recovery, and progression of the condition. Although this is the case, not all patient evaluations matched up to their endoscopy results. With a combination of both patients personal evaluations and endoscopy testing, doctors can pinpoint where the disease is in its progression, and where the patient is in terms of quality of life and flare-ups. If a patient is showing signs of progression in their endoscopy but isn’t currently experiencing extreme discomfort, doctors can still treat the disease from a preventive standpoint, something they wouldn’t otherwise have been able to do prior to this study.
