Why Some Lupus Patients Need Kidney Transplants
Symptoms
Lupus nephritis may cause the following symptoms:
- Fatigue: Feeling more tired than normal can be a common symptom of lupus nephritis.
- Weight gain: As the kidneys become damaged, they become less effective in removing waste from the bloodstream. A buildup of this waste can lead to swelling, which may cause weight gain.
- Blood in urine: Damage to the kidneys may cause frank blood, or blood that can be seen with the naked eye, to appear in the urine.
