More Research Supports Link Between Multiple Sclerosis and Mononucleosis

Prevention is always key

Dr. Balfour is coming from the perspective that prevention is key. This is certainly the best way to combat any illness, but to do this we need to have a clear understanding of its causes. With MS, we are not there yet. However, by understanding that there is a link between mono and MS we can maybe help prevent some people from developing the chronic disease by finding a way to prevent mono from developing in the first place. As Dr. Balfour states, there are tons of treatments developed and currently in research for MS, but none are fully effective and there is no cure. This brings up an important point regarding the way that the United States healthcare system works.
