Reducing financial stress
The American Journal of Managed Care reports that the majority of people with MS have access to health insurance, so this is unlikely to be the factor causing financial stress. The problem is that coverage for MS related complications can be highly variable, and often the costs will fall back on the family or individual. Public health measures are key in helping reduce this burden, and education is at the forefront of this. Additionally, healthcare professionals can work together to increase funding for people affected by MS. When working with people who have MS, healthcare providers should not neglect to look at what other factors may be affecting the individual’s health. Stress has a negative impact on people’s health. If providers are aware of how finances may be affecting their patients, they can work with them to address these issues.
