Proper Charting Can Lead to a Reduced Number of Medical Errors
Double, triple and quadruple check, and once more for good measure.
Imagine how overwhelming it can be to have a full day of patients to care for, properly charting and keeping track of their food, medication and treatments throughout your entire shift. It could definitely be a daunting task.
When charting, it’s critical to have everything checked multiple times. The reason is to prevent charting patient information in the wrong chart. This can easily happen, especially if the two patients have the same last name and have the wrong room numbers. This is why it is critical to make sure that the correct information is being inputted into the correct patient chart. It’s better to be safe than sorry!
