Autism in the family?

A friend and I don't want to directly ask if he has autism however it's something his whole family has. I was just wondering if autism could be passed through the whole family almost like a genetic disability, he's a normal kid just with learning disabilities and I'm just curious about it. Thank you to anyone who responds I know that this page is kinda old but I'm just curious.

Advances in genetics have identified some inheritable causes of autism. See your pediatrician.

It depends on how you look at it. If your friend never had autism in the beginning of Life then most likely he does not have it now. But then it could have Overlook at the time of learning assessments done. I would suggest to go to his. Primary doctor to see if the doctor could do a assessment for autism or see if a behavioral analyst can do it from your state To make a proper diagnosis.
