Cardiologist Questions

CK lab was high and still discharged from hospital.

So I recently visited the ER and had a bunch of labs done. One of the tests that stood out to me was the CK lab. It was high with a score of 416 and I was still discharged. Should I have been?

CK is a nonspecific test. If you had been exercising and playing the bongo drums it could be high. Some medications can raise the CK. CK can be from muscle, brain, or heart. Depending on the ratios among them, it is not necessarily evidence of a cardiac issue. My guess is that your CK isoenzymes did not indicate cardiac damage. Troponin is more specific for the heart. Most important, your clinical status regarding why you came to the emergency room in the first place is the most important issue regarding whether you should have been discharged presumably for outpatient follow up.
Troponin is preferred to CK for heart diagnoses.
