Not if performed correctly
A CT scan of the lungs can have potential side effects, including radiation exposure, allergic reactions to contrast material, and temporary discomfort or claustrophobia. To learn more, connect with me at drjeromepuryear.com. Thank you!
Unless contrast agents are used, you should not anticipate any side effects from the CAT scan other than dealing with the claustrophobia of the test – also, the test does pick up a lot of information that people are not sure what to do with. Often it spots “things” that are not important. But since no one can ever be certain, this often leads to more and more testing, and or surgery, which is of questionable benefit.
In general, a CT scan of the chest/lungs is a very safe procedure, especially if performed without contrast. Please speak with your doctor who ordered the CT scan if you remain concerned.
