Physical therapy can be an effective treatment for ankle injuries, including sprains and fractures. For sprains, physical therapy aims to strengthen muscles around the ankle, improve flexibility, and restore normal range of motion. It can also help prevent future injuries by enhancing balance and proprioception. Fractures may require immobilization with a cast or brace initially, but physical therapy is often recommended afterward to regain strength, mobility, and function in the affected ankle. The specific approach depends on the severity and type of injury, so it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized treatment recommendations.
I would recommend elevated injured extremity and ice/cool packs first 24 hours. Gradual weight bearing. But a lot of elevation. Over the counter ibuprofen helps as well, if you can take. If not better after 5-7 days visit your pcp.
It depends, proper in person assessment is needed to better discern the severity and give you the most appropriate answer
Depending on the injury your foot and ankle surgeon will prescribe physical therapy if needed to help with your ankle injury.
The answer is "it depends", it depends on the type and location of injury. therefore, please consult a doctor on the course of treatment.
Physical therapy is one component of treatment, depending on the severity of the injury. I recommend you make an appointment with a foot and ankle specialist (podiatrist) for diagnosis and treatment options.
