I will have hand surgery. Can nerve block be used for hand surgery?

Yes, we often use an upper extremity nerve block for hand surgery for anesthesia and/or for post-operative pain control.
Yes. Quite often it used as a sole anesthesia with some IV sedation, or as a supplement to general anesthesia. The goal is to cover distally three nerves: median, radial, and ulnar, which makes the whole hand numb for over 8 hours
Nerve blocks most certainly can be used for hand surgery. Talk to your surgeon and your anesthesiologist and do it!! The procedure will probably have some component of sedation, as well as the block to help you hold still. It's most often easier to work on a stationery 'target'/surgical field. Always ask questions before having a surgical procedure and anesthesia
