General Practitioner Questions Chest Pain

Chest infection

I’ve been having a lot of chest pain in the mornings. Throughout the day it tends to die down, but I’m left with an awful cough that sounds like you’re trying to start a dead car. My mucus is green, and I’ve tried everything from honey, to warm liquids, and sleeping a bunch. I’ve had very low fevers, 99 degrees was my highest. And my throat is starting to become raw from the coughing. What OTC medication can I take to help with this?

The question is, what else is wrong with you? AIDS? Diabetes? Irrregular heart rythem? Muscular dystrophy? Sclerosis? The issue of green mucus is indicative of something wrong, and the fever is not insignificant. Could be TB, could be a bout of pneumocystis pneunomiae og even RSV. Forget OTC, see your family doc, get your sputum tested (culture and resistence) and your blood work done.
I wouldn't recommend taking an OTC medication, particularly with the "green" sputum you have described--you may need an anti-viral and/or an antibiotic ASAP. Contact your PCP or go to an urgent care.
