I will have a tonsillectomy. Do they give you local anesthesia for tonsillectomy?

Tonsillectomy requires general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation. The possibility of bleeding requires protection of the airway.
In days past, the tonsils beds were injected with local anesthetic but not now a days. I suspect due to potential complications.
It is a general anesthetic
