First question to find out from a Healthcare professional is, why are your ankles swollen? This answer can range from sprained ankles to Congestive Heart Failure. If it is a sprained ankle, then rest it, ice it (with a paper towel between your skin and ice pack) and elevate it. Many times a Chiropractor or Physical Therapist can tape the ankle and do different therapies to help the sprain.
It depends upon why they’re swelling is it from hypertension. Is it from deep vein thrombosis, is it from diabetes, is it from obesity, or is it from pregnancy?
Swollen ankles can be a result of various things. If it is not caused by an injury. I would go to your primary doctor to rule out other issues that can be causing this issue.
The treatment of swollen ankles depends on the cause of swollen ankles. I recommend going to a Chiropractor or an MD to get a diagnosis of the cause of the swollen ankles first.
Swollen ankles can be caused by thyroid, heart, or kidney problems; sometimes by lack of movement, sitting too much; sometimes by muscle weakness or misalignments of back and extremity joints; sometimes by a pinched nerve at the spine or at a peripheral entrapment.
