How do you stop having night terrors?

My 15 year old son has frequent night terrors that are unsettling. How do you stop having night terrors?

There is no great treatment for this parasomnia. There is a difference between night terrors and nightmares. Terrors occur in deep sleep and are usually not recalled by the patient; nightmares occur in dream sleep and are usually remembered by the patient.
Most children grow out of night terrors. Unfortunately, there isn’t much in terms of treatment other than reassurance and some cognitive behavioral therapy as well as insuring good sleep hygiene.
