There is literature supporting the benefits of coffee in helping depression.
There is some research pointing to moderate amounts of coffee being helpful for depression!

Coffee is no treatment for any mental disorder. In excess, it can cause anxiety and insomnia.

Because coffee is a stimulant, it can improve your mood somewhat in the morning. For significant depression, the best plan is to work with a doctor and probably try an antidepressant.
Coffee could be good to temporarily relieve some symptoms of depression such as tiredness, fatigue, and lack of energy. However, one should be cautious as it is not a treatment of depression as well as too much caffeine could potentially increase anxiety and cause jitteriness.
