Is it normal to have this knee pain?

Within the last 1-2 weeks, whenever I have my legs crossed for an extended period, maybe 25 mins +, there is a pretty sharp pain right behind my left knee cap after extending. The pain lasts for a good 15 seconds before going away completely. I am only 18, but used to play football for 7 years up until my freshmen year of high school and was in marching band all of high school. Is this normal or something I should see my doctor about if it persists?

Important to note whether you are crossing the left over the right (because then it is stretching) or right over left, which is compressing.
I have seen your issue many times. You may have some irregular, rough or damaged cartilage in the vicinity of your kneecap. Fortunately this discomfort only happens when you are sitting in that position. It would be worth visiting an orthopedic sports medicine specialist. Knowledge is power.
Might have a knee cap pinch.Probably not serious. If it does not go away in 3 weeks see an orthopedic surgeon.
