I don’t know what surgery you had. There are now two injuries to deal with: original injury and surgical injury. Yes, physical therapy is necessary but not with stretching, strengthening, manipulation, electrotherapy, etc. because they worsen the injuries and prolong healing. To resolve injury (pain and swelling due to injured muscles/fasciae), it is best treated with light touch (Touch-and-Hold Method) for speedy and complete recover. After most surgeries, particularly after joint and musculoskeletal surgeries, physical therapy is important in order to regain range of motion, strength, balance and mobility and to help with the healing process
Yes. Particularly for muscle weakness and atrophy or stiffness.
I strongly recommend asking your surgeon for expectations and management for your after care.
Usually
It depends on what type of ankle surgery you are to have. There are many types of ankle surgery including soft tissue surgery, ankle replacement surgery, ankle fracture repair, ankle fusion. So how effective Physical Therapy will be is largely dependent on what type of surgery you are to have.
Absolutely. The ankle often stiffens after surgery and therapy can aid with recovering through the post operative phases.
Physical therapy can be effective in shortening recovery time from surgery. I recommend you discuss with a foot and ankle surgeon (podiatrist) for your particular case
