Pediatric dose question

I am needing to know the correct dose of Dimetapp Cold and Allergy for my 20-month old son who weighs 27lbs. He is miserably congested and I would like to get him as much relief as I can. I can’t remember the dose I had to give my daughter when she was that age, but I think it was a teaspoon or maybe 3/4t. Please advise

As far as the dimetapp cold and allergy medicine is concerned it is not recommended for children under the age of six. For congested infants the best approach is to use only an antihistamine by mouth like Benadryl liquid which is much Safer at appropriate doses. For a child of about 25-28 lbs, the dosage of Benadryl liquid is about 5.0 ml or one teaspoon Given 2-3 times a day, especially at bedtime. Also to aid the medication to decongest the child, using saline nasal spray As needed for congestion nis much safer than oral decongestants and actually is much more helpful.
