True hip joint pain usually causes pain in groin, if the pain is in the side, it could still be from the hip joint arthritis, but most likely hip bursa is the problem. If the pain is in the buttock region, it could be resulting from back issues. Needs an exam by your physician and probably require a hip x-ray.
IF it truly is your hip, it may be arthritis. Otherwise, it could be hip bursitis or pain coming from your lower back. See an Orthopedic Surgeon and get it sorted out!!

Hope it helps!!

First of all you have to be sure that the pain is coming from your left hip joint. If the pain is in the lower back and buttock region, the pain is usually coming from the lower back. Hip pain typically occurs in the groin and lateral thigh and may radiate to the knee. A good examination can determine if the pain is coming from the hip joint or from the lower back. Radiographs and MRI studies may also be necessary to help the diagnosis. Then a treatment plan can be outlined. There are many good options and therefore you should seek care with a capable provider in your area.
