Why do my knees crunch?

Anytime I bend my knees in the slightest there is a very loud crunching sound. After periods of exercise or even when I'm laying down they tend to get pins and needles feelings. What could be the cause? Should I see a doctor?

Definitely something you should consult with a knee specialist.
Thank you for your question, and hope you feel better soon.
Yes, you should see an Orthopedic Surgeon. You probably have arthritis under your kneecaps. This gives a crunching sound when going up or down stairs or getting up from a squatting position. Try to avoid these things as much as possible.

Hope it helps!!

If you have pain and swelling of the joint or if the knee feels unstable, you will need to see a doctor.
The most common reason for crunching behind knee cap is mild damage to the overlying cartilage that covers the bone. In early stages this is called chondromalacia and in later stages arthritis. It has many causes from congenital issues to trauma. If you have any pain, swelling, instability you should see an orthopedic surgeon. Early evaluation could avoid surgery in the future. Good luck.
Yes. Orthopedic surgeon.
