“My friend has taken abortion pills which is causing heavy bleeding. Does this mean she requires a D&C or is it normal?”
My friend wanted to terminate an unplanned pregnancy and took abortion pills. After 2 days of taking the pills, she is bleeding heavily. Does this mean a natural termination of the pregnancy? Do you think she requires a D&C?

It is normal to bleed heavily while taking abortive pills, but if the bleeding is more that one pad, she should have a DC.
The heavy bleeding with an abortion should last 1 day max, and then lighten up and last another few more days - anything else is abnormal - any severe hemorrhage that lasts over a few hours should be evaluated in the ER.
Just wait. If it continues more than 6 days, she needs to see her obgyn. Sometimes, it is part of the normal process, but in case the bleeding is too heavy, she should not wait for 6 days.
If bleeding continues for more than five to seven days, she should see a gynecologist who will do pelvic exam and determine if she needs d and c.
This is normal after taking these pills. However if she is changing pads that are fully soaked every hour then she needs to go to an ER
It depends on how long the bleeding lasts and how heavy it is. Depending on how far along the pregnancy is, she may see the pregnancy pass. Usually when that is happening, bleeding will be heavy and there will be bad cramping.
If she is having bleeding where she is soaking through a regular menstrual pad in an hour and it goes on for more than 2 hours, she needs to be seen and evaluated. If the bleeding continues for more than 1 week without decreasing, then she needs to be evaluated.
