Hello,

If there are no medical contraindications such as high blood pressure, one can try Mucinex-D, 1 tablet twice a day for 5 days and OTC Fluticasone nasal spray. If it doesn't help, then certainly see an ENT physician.

What you are experiencing is known as eustachian tube dysfunction. The eustachian tube is the tube to that connects the ear to the back of the nose and equilibrates the pressure in the middle ear space (the space behind the eardrum where the ossicles. or bones of hearing, are located). If this persists, this can lead to a buildup of fluid behind the eardrum which will cause a significant loss in hearing and can be quite uncomfortable to many patients.
I recommend that you see a local otolaryngologist for an assessment of this process. However, the process is generally self-limiting.

Air needs to enter your middle ear to proper functioning. Air enters thr a tube that opens in the back of the nose so if you have a cold there is swealling of that area that results in obstrucion of the tube and no air in the middle ear. This may result in the ear filling with liquid that may become infected. You need medical treatment for this condition. See your ENT doctor
Try popping ears with Valsalva maneuver. If it does not clear up in one week, see an ENT.
