How do I know if my knee pain is serious?

I am a 36 year old male. My knee hurts almost every day after a sports injury. How do I know if my knee pain is serious? Should I see a doctor?

Unrelenting knee pain IS serious. See a doctor.
If your knee pain occurs every day, it is serous. You should see an orthopedist.
Any persistent or recurrent knee pain should be evaluated by a qualified sports medicine physician so you can determine the source of your pain. At 36 you aren't likely to have arthritis but often fitness enthusiasts and athletes get overuse injuries or other issues that don't require surgery.
If the pain is present every day and prevents you from doing the activities you enjoy, then see a doctor.
Catching, locking, and swelling are cause for concern. Also, episodes of instability are worrisome. Absolutely, this should be evaluated by a physician.
If it is persistent, then you should see a doctor. If you tweaked it, then rest and Ibuprofen should help within a few days of the injury. However, if pain persists, you should be seen.
Yes. See an orthopedic surgeon for any buckling or giving out.
