How does scoliosis affect balance?

My child is 13-years-old and started leaning on one side when he walks. How does scoliosis affect balance?

If his scoliosis is so severe that he is leaning to one side he needs to be evaluated for surgery or bracing.
If he is leaning to one side, then it will throw off his balance. Also, SOME scoliosis cases are related to neurologic conditions, which can affect balance. He needs to see an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in scoliosis repair.

Hope it helps!!

Excessive curvature can lead to pelvic tilt which may cause balance issues. Also, certain types of scoliosis can be associated with a tethered spinal cord which can also precent with balance problems. Recommend your child should be seen and followed by a Pediatric Orthopedic surgeon.
