Various medications are used in the treatment of anxiety. Some are felt faster than others, as well as individuals reacting differently to the same medication. Your mental health provider would certainly be able to go through those various options with you, as well as discussing their risks, benefits, and alternatives.
Hope that helps, and thanks.
Depends every person is different but treatment does work.

Hi,

Anxiety meds usually take 2 weeks to start working unless you are taking benzodiapine gp or medications such as klonopin, ativan, xanax, or valium; those work immediately, but have a potential for dependency if taking more than the prescribed dosages.
The textbook answer for an SSRI/Antidepressant medication is 4-6 weeks, however, in that case it is possible that efficacy will only be appreciated at a higher dose if nothing changes in that first chunk of time. Medications like buspirone take quite a bit longer and are usually an augmenting or part of dual therapy with an FDA-approved medication for a DSM5 anxiety disorder. Benzos naturally work quickly and can provide significant relief if the distress is truly intolerable - however, at that point, it would likely be wise to attain a higher level of care (than outpatient). Do have faith and endure - that truly does overall help changes of having a positive response to a medication.
