“Is a chiropractic consultation needed?”
I hurt my back during softball practice and am scheduled to see a chiropractor. Is a chiropractic consultation needed for a back injury?

Yes. You want to make sure the doctor takes time to know exactly what’s going so they can make proper recommendations to get you better as fast as possible. Without one would be like a doctor recommending a medication without asking questions about your condition.
I would always ask if I could consult with any professional prior to being treated. It greatly helps to try to express concerns and clarify what can be expected if you don't already know! Another good idea is to be clear about your own limitations related to complying to a treatment plan as your results will certainly depend on your participation.
It depends on how they are defining a consultation. Typically, a consultation is a discussion to find out if chiropractic would be a good choice to treat your problem. If you injured your back, you are more than likely a good candidate for chiropractic care. The consult is not really necessary. A history and examination would be appropriate to determine a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Good luck. I hope you get better soon. Take care and be well.

Yes, 100 percent, and X-rays are needed as well. We need to see your spine so we know what's wrong and how to work on it.
Absolutely. How else is the Chiropractor going to know 1. If it’s safe to adjust you manually based on the history he or she obtains from you. 2. Diagnosis can’t be established without an exam. 3. How would they know where to adjust if they didn’t have the history and exam to go by.
Hope I helped. Got your back!

A consultation is a perfect approach, it's a brief appt. and you will know right away if chiropractic is right for you.
A consultation is always needed preceding any treatment. It would be a disservice to you to treat without an examination and to address the cause of the injury.
Typically the use of the word "consultation" is used in the medical world to describe when a doctor or patient wants the opinion or an evaluation from a second practitioner who does not expect to take control of a case.
Chiropractors have typically used the phrase "free consultation" as a method of advertising to the the patient. A consultation by a chiropractor really should not be used as a way to lure to pull in patients.
I have tried to avoid the use of it in that way. Many times I just refuse to charge a patient a patient for a scheduled visit when I think that they should be see by another specialist.
Lastly, a consultation is not required from another provided in order for a patient to see a chiropractor. Chiropractors are considered an open port of entry which means a chiropractor does not need to receive a referral from another doctor. It is possible that some insurance companies or even the V.A. will require that a medical practitioner make a referral in order to cover the reimbursement.
Hope that answers your question without confusing the issue. Bottom line, don't hesitate to see a chiropractor.
