My mother doesn't want to live after my father passed?

My mother is 72 years old and recently lost her husband, my father. How do I help her?

One way to help her is to ask what her husband would have wanted her to do. My suspicion is that he would want her to go on and have a fulfilling life and to remind her of what she means to other people in her life and her family.
She needs to be evaluated by a conscientious psychiatrist who will determine IF she is going through normal grief or she is suffering from depression and needs to be hospitalized or could be treated as an outpatient
That is normal after the first 2 months, be in close contact with your mother. If she continues having these symptoms after 2 months, need to follow up with your geriatric physician, but if she has any suicidal ideas, she needs to go to the ER immediately.
Situation depression after the loss of a spouse is very common. Your mother needs to see a primary care physician & be evaluated for the onset of depression. She may benefit from being placed on a antidepressant medication.
