Azo-Gesic Side Effects

Azo-Gesic is used to relieve the pain, burning, and discomfort caused by infection or irritation of the urinary tract. It is not an antibiotic and will not cure the infection itself. Azo-Gesicis available only with your doctor's prescription. In deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For this medicine, the following should be considered:

Allergies

Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or any other medicines. Also tell your health care professional if you have any other types of allergies, such as to foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals.

Pediatric

Although there is no specific information comparing use of Azo-Gesic in children with use in other age groups, it is not expected to cause different side effects or problems in children than it does in adults.

Geriatric

Many medicines have not been studied specifically in older people. Therefore, it may not be known whether they work exactly the same way they do in younger adults. Although there is no specific information comparing use of Azo-Gesic in the elderly with use in other age groups, this medicine is not expected to cause different side effects or problems in older people than it does in younger adults.

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur while taking Azo-Gesic:

Rare

Some side effects of Azo-Gesic may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

Important safety information:

  • Do NOT take more than the recommended dose or use for longer than 2 days without checking with your doctor.
  • Do not use Azo-Gesic for future urinary tract problems without first checking with your doctor.
  • Azo-Gesic may interfere with certain lab tests including urinalysis. Be sure your doctor and lab personnel know you are taking Azo-Gesic.
  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Azo-Gesic while you are pregnant. It is not known if this medicine is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Azo-Gesic, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.

Azo-Gesic should not be administered to patients with CrCl<50 mL/min. Azo-Gesic should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment. A yellowish tinge of the skin or sclera may indicate accumulation due to renal insufficiency and the need to discontinue Azo-Gesic. Children younger than 12 years of age should not take Azo-Gesic unless directed by a physician.
