Breast Cancer : Survival rates and treatments

Survival rates and treatments

In the United States, according to The American Cancer Society, Cancer Facts & Figures 2017, 69% of Americans with cancer have an average 5-year relative survival rate (99% for prostate cancer and 19% for lung cancer, for example). It is also reported on other sites that the US has a higher cancer survival rate than the rest of the world, attributed to greater funding for treatment costs.

So, what about these treatments? The American Cancer Society informs us of the usual attack plans: Surgery, radiation, and/or chemotherapy, possible targeted therapy with medication to attack a specific genetic structure of cancer cells, or immunotherapy drugs to build up a person’s immunity system to better fight the invading cancer cells. As with all medications, there are side effects to be considered. For more information, click here.
